Week 11 EOC: What I have learned in HR

This class has shown me what to look for while at a job, how everyone works to how they treat each other too. The longer I’ve been in this class, realized how much work harassment and sexual harassment happen at jobs. Having this class has made me more aware of my surroundings at work. Human Resource Management class has also taught me how to deal with these situations when I’m in them, how to respond with the correct answer. I think this class has taught me how to even look at my business, how many other situations could have changed by how I reacted to it. Work is only about work, not your personal life. Many people forget about how to keep their personal life out of their work area. This made me realize how a business should be up to pare, and how there should be tools for them to work with. That way they are not constantly busting their backs trying to do a job, when a tool could make their job lots easier. I look at how I treat my employees, then I look at some of the situations that happen to employees. How do business get away with some of these things, where I can’t even get away with firing someone for not doing their job? I look at this class as a good lesson not just how to react as an employee, but also how to run my business. I got to see from both sides, how a company should be ran. This class has taught me more about my rights as a person, at any company. How I should react to things, how I should look at things, and how to not fully answer a question. Things I’ve not know that an employer could not ask, to what they can ask.

Week 10 ECO: My Plan

My plans are becoming something bigger than anyone thought I could be. I want to be the fashion designer that everyone wants their hands on, I don’t want just the money but the satisfaction that I accomplished something amazing. I want little girls to look up to me, and know that a small town girl like myself can get out and become something. Everyday I’m becoming one step closer to becoming someone even bigger. My future I just want to better my career, making different unique things. I want to stand out from all designers in today’s day. I want to be another Coco Channel, the better perishing Coco that learned from her mistakes. When I see myself in the future is never retiring, I want to take fashion and revolve it. I don’t want to stay away from my passion, I want to live it! I see myself traveling, and joining other fashion designers that enjoy doing what I do. I want to own my own business, end up so big that it travel not just throughout America, but make it to other countries as well. I think that I do have some big dreams, and all I can say is I’m living my dreams day by day. I’m becoming one step closer to becoming something new, and everyday I’ve got to living doing my passion is a good day. Keep thinking to myself be what would I have done if I was not here? Honestly I would be depressed working a job I hated from 9-5. I also think how lucky I was that I keep going at my dreams, never satisfied with the buzz I get off of life when I’m enjoying my field. Many people keep asking what about kids, a family, or even wanting to retire and travel.

Week 9 EOC:

The business was all about sexual contact, the boss was cheating on his wife with different girls at the business. Then the men started to use Mr. Bakersfield for his apartment, for sexual affairs. Which in the end got him into a higher position, then the boss also wanted to start using the apartment as well. This is something that should never be tolerated, who knows if the guy was qualified for the position. They were more worried about the sex life then if the job was actually getting done. This movie was not just work harassment but also lots of sexual harassment. From slapping a girls butt in an elevator, to making out during a Christmas party. None of this should have been tolerated, the fact the boss was doing it made it ok. If the boys and the boss were doing it, who knows who else was. I see this was more about who could get with who, instead of actually the job. The people that were working towards a higher position got used, in order to get a higher position. The ones that did not know what was going on, that were working would not get even noticed. The business was not professional at all, just by the man running it. Showed that the sexual contact is ok, and that getting a higher position requires you to be involved with sexual contact. Most Christmas parties are professional and have family’s come together. They had people making out in offices, and even at the party with all of the employees. No personal life should be conflicting at work. That’s where it should be left at home or even a hotel room, and should not be going on at a job. I think also another work conflict was when the women was listening to her boss’s phone calls. Even if it involved her, she should have only got involved when she was asked.

Week 8 EOC: Mr. Heart

Throughout the movie, you would find how disrespectful Mr. Heart was to all the girls. You look at it and wonder how did it get away with it? It looked like it to me, everyone encouraged it instead of stopping it. They were more worried about losing their job, he would just send out someone to find out gossip. Which was encouragement, He was the one that ran the show around their, which controlled everything. From the sexual contact, the only reason the girl had a job was for the fact she was attractive. He was more into the fact that he could get her to do anything, just as a way for something to look at. The whole reason she was in that position, so he had a sex object not only to boss around but also abuse. The fact she did keep her distance, but did not stand up for herself did not help the situation. He not only make her feel uncomfortable but also made her not feel excepted by the company by the rumors or the attempt of making rumors. The only time he wanted to stop the rumors or gossip, is when it was something against him. He wanted to make everyone like him, while disrespecting the women. He never accepted the girl’s hard work, and did not want to promote how hard they did work. Even at the end he never gave the girls the credit for changing the business, the work ethic of the employees as well. Which ended up with a promotion, which is a big deal and is a good thing. I see in the long run the business owner will see what kind of boss he was, which is he going to still have a job after finding out what he did? I think the girls did not do the right thing at all, but in the long run they did save their jobs and also made it easier to go to work.

Week 6 EOC: Perform job analysis, write job descriptions, and job specifications

Looking for jobs, everything that is in fashion design related is wanting at least 2-3 year’s experience. Meaning that by the time I get out of school, it will be hard to find jobs that relate to my degree. I found a job in Miami Florida, being an Assistant fashion designer. Which is one step closer being a head fashion designer, I want to be able to follow up on this job when I get out of school. I would like to have the experience and requirements that they ask for by the time I finish my degree. It’s a part time job, but one of the requirements was a willingness to learn and take on more tasks. Something that would help me in the future, I think it would be a great opportunity if I could get it. I don’t mind moving, I think experiencing different life styles would be great. There is a few different programs that I would have to learn, in order to get the job like Photoshop. Like any other fashion designer you work with people, which means I would need to have the skills to work with a team. Since imp also the assistant fashion designer, I need to be able to structure everything and everyone. Making sure everything is getting done to the expectation, and also making sure the employees and workers are getting everything they need. I could also be interacting with people from different corporations, and interacting with different people in the fashion world. I will be working with tech-packs to also creating color stories. Following up on trends, to dealing will samples and keeping track of them. It’s like being a manager, they are just under the fashion designer. I would also be doing my own sketches, trying to participate in some design ideas.

Week 4

Your selling not just your product, you are also selling your customers. We have changed the marketing industry to look at selling your whole product by how your employees look, and also the business. Which means employees with tattoos, scars, and hygiene problems are not able to get a job. Your employees represent your product, in fashion you make something tight fight to fit a skinny no curved person. You will have to find employees or people to be able to fit the requirements for the job, many places have requirements. Some people are able to just fit in that category, some have to work towards it to be able to get the job. Marketing is not just about if your employee can just work, they need to sell themselves like the product. It is sexist, in some cases. Where a women would be better at selling clothing lines compared to men, but most men are able to sell tools in the back of Walmart compared to any girl. We have took it upon ourselves to divide the roles, in order to make the product sell. You could not imagine going to a five star hotel and the front desk lady having tattoos? No, it has nothing to do with the work ethics but the imagery. Most of five star hotels have business people that have money, that are looking for a classy hotel to stay at to get away from that. A person with tattoos would give the environment of not a relaxing place, but a crazy, loud, and a party place. Just one little thing about the person you hire, can change the imagery of a business. Is it fair? In some cases yes, I would not like someone at my bank telling me how to manage my money when they spent all theirs on tattoos.

Week 3

a.       Note that the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) sponsors the site. Why do you believe they would do so?

It’s a good way to advertise, and also be able to gather up cases as in the field they are in. They are able to take something they know and help out others that have this problem. By having them on that website, no one’s going to call anyone else if the information is already there.

b. What specific resources are available on this site? List at least three such resources.

Grassroots, nominee, and the NELA are all resources. They all provide information, and help towards getting the right treatment.

b.      What are some specific work-related issues you feel would compel an employee to seek out the type of information found on a site such as this one? How can hospitality manager’s best address these issues?

The managers are being unfair, they are not taking some things into consideration. They are cutting down hours, treating the employee with any respect, and not doing their job right. Which can mean many things, like pregnancy, and gender discribination. Cutting ones hours, because of the fact they were not what you thought you had. Many managers do this, its hard to work around things like those instead of just not working you.

Week 2: CEO Case Study: Human Resources Management in Action page 58

I would say A, for the fact she is showing up and doing her job. You can’t blame her for coming in on her days off, for the fact her employees are calling in sick. At least she is taking responsibility and coming into work to help. She can keep on hiring, and finding more help. The only problem is it’s a gamble, you don’t ever know who’s actually going to be good help. She needs an employee that’s going to man up, and show up for the job and work. How could she really quit them from calling in sick? If they are sick once or twice out of a month, then start asking for doctor note. Who’s going to really pay to go to a doctor if they are really not that sick, and if they do bring one in then you just got to keep them. They will eventually having to call in sick, or just quit. Which bales you to find more help, there is no guarantee that everyone you hire is going to have good work ethics. It just does not happen that way, you just got to try keeping the ones that are worth the money. Now the general manager could fire her, but that would be one more job to take on and is she really doing anything wrong? The rooms are kept up and you’re getting customers in all the time. I think that she is doing her job and keeping the place clean, which is making more people willing to come back. Help her find more help, that way she will be able to have some time off. Also more likely you will be able to keep her around.

Week 1: EOC My Voice

“I don’t design clothes, I design dreams.” –Ralph Lauren

Fashion Designer is all I’ve wanted to become, it’s all I’ve wanted to be involved in. It’s been one of my biggest dreams to be a fashion designer on 5th Ave. in New York City.  By setting goals and pushing myself hard, I’ve made it one step closer to following my dreams. I attend the Art Institute in Las Vegas, NV and will be graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design. I’ve always experimented with new ways of wearing things, and was defiantly one to stand out from the crowd. Fashion is everywhere, style is something that’s unique to each individuals. I want to be that fashion designer that is able to let everyone’s style shine through. I’ve always wanted to be able to help change lives, by make someone feel better about themselves. I want to be able to create new styles, and offer them to people of all sizes. I want to help everyone find their nitch in fashion, and also find something that fits them and makes them look better. Since I got to experience New York when I was younger, my biggest dream was to see someone wearing something I made. I want to be involved with the runways, photoshoots, and all the people as well. Being more involved with everything, just makes me want to strive even more towards my dream. Coming from a little town called Richfield, the style is all the same. Trends don’t hit until months after they come out, and many trends are unsuccessful. Everything is the same in this little town. Being able to see different styles and ideas in fashion, is refreshing. Fashion is something that is not developed over night, it takes generations of finding  better designs. Being able to change up different garments and adding your personal style to it as well. The steps of getting my dream to become a reality are school, hard work, and dedication. School is going to teach me the stuff I need to conquer the rest of my steps. For instance  right now im Learning about ads, style trending, and basic sewing. This being my second quarter in I’ve learned everything from how a garments made, to tech packs, and even the history behind the trends and styles.  Fashion might just look like just a person’s idea, but it’s so much more. With the right color for that season, to how long the stitch should be. Fashion Designers are not just making a garment personally for them, but for everyone to enjoy it. I’m Bailee Baldwin, a fashion designer.

week 1: EOC Best or Worst Job

My worst customer service would have to be getting my nails done at Top Nail and Spa, in Richfield UT. I’ve been going for a while now, and they were really good at first and i felt like they did a good job. The more I went to them I began to realize they started to pack more people then employees, which means they didn’t spend much time on you. They started making nails crooked and the art on the nail looked like a five year old did it. I kept going back thinking it was just mistakes and that they were trying, but when I went to get my nails done for prom they defiantly screwed it all up. When I told them I needed a new color to match my dress, they did the opposite and put a bright neon orange instead of the classy red I was looking for. Knowing that they had heard me but just ignored me was irritating, but I went with it. By the time I was done, I paid $100 for a job not done. The bottom of my feet were not scrubbed and my cuticles were not pushed back, after asking multiple times to fix the problems she acted like she did not know any English. Even though I know they did, the customer service was a bad experience. To this day I hear multiple remarks of how they just want the money and not the business, which you can’t make money when you don’t get any business.

Coffee Shop was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a job. I learned so many responsibilities that a business owner has, being a manager there was a tough yet awesome time. Doing things from placement orders every week, to making sure all customers were happy with the service and drinks. Training girls for the night and day shift could be one of the toughest parts of the job, it was even worse when the girls were older than me. It was harder to be a manager at an age that is so young, but it taught me what to look for when I run my own fashion store one day.
